Profile

Seasoned software development professional with 30+ years of experience delivering solutions across diverse technologies and industries — from medical devices and healthcare IT to fintech and quantitative trading. I bring a breadth of technical experience that lets me evaluate the options available and choose the right approach for the problem at hand, and I'm equally comfortable building the thing myself or leading local and offshore teams to get it done. I'm a clear communicator who bridges technical detail and business value, and I'm at my best when I can take ownership of a problem end-to-end and deliver working software without unnecessary complexity. Most recently, I solo-designed, built, and launched backtestresults.com — a full-stack SaaS product — from idea to paying customers.

Experience

Owner

January 2025 - Present

Medellín, CO

Solo-designed, built, and launched a SaaS platform where traders can discover, evaluate, and subscribe to quantitative trading strategies backed by transparent, verifiable backtest data. The platform features interactive equity curves and drawdown charts, trade-level drill-downs with entry/exit detail, strategy categorization and favoriting, and real-time trade signal delivery via configurable webhooks — allowing subscribers to act on signals programmatically or receive alerts in their own systems.

Built the core backtesting and strategy execution engine in Java/Spring Boot, connecting to Interactive Brokers for live trading and ingesting historical market data from Databento across equities, options, and futures. Strategy results and analytics are stored on AWS S3 and served through CloudFront for fast, reliable delivery.

The consumer-facing web app is built in Next.js/React/TypeScript and deployed on Vercel, with Clerk handling authentication, Stripe powering tiered subscription billing with upgrade/downgrade flows, Neon serverless Postgres as the primary database, and Loops managing automated email lifecycle campaigns. A separate internal admin dashboard (Vite/React) handles strategy management, backtest uploads, and live execution monitoring. Published a shared design system as a private npm package to maintain consistency across both frontends.

TriVirum, Inc.

Project Manager and Technical Lead (Contractor)

September 2020 - October 2024

Sacramento, CA

Led an offshore software development team responsible for building and maintaining TriVirum's cloud platform — the backend system that receives, processes, and distributes ECG data captured by the company's low-cost disposable screening device for early detection of atrial fibrillation. The device is prescribed to at-risk patients, worn for up to 15 days, and returned by mail for data extraction and analysis.

The platform was built heavily on AWS, leveraging Lambda, API Gateway, Cognito, RDS, Aurora, S3, Amplify, CloudWatch, CodeBuild, CodePipeline, and CloudFormation. Frontend applications were built in TypeScript with React and Redux. I was responsible for technical direction, sprint planning, and delivery across the full development lifecycle.

Murata Vios, Inc.

Interoperability Consultant

August 2020 - December 2021

Minneapolis, MN

Served as the interoperability specialist for Vios's patient-worn vital signs monitoring system, used in acute-care settings. The system consists of a chest-worn sensor, a Bluetooth LE-connected Android tablet, and an on-premise server for data capture and hospital integration.

I was responsible for on-site installation and configuration, coordinating with hospital IT teams to connect the system to patient admissions and electronic health record systems. I also created the customer-facing technical documentation for the product's interoperability capabilities.

Sotera Digital Health, Inc.

Software Development Contractor

January 2018 - July 2020

San Diego, CA

Assembled and led an offshore development team to enhance Sotera's remote alarming solution and build a new system management platform. The remote alarming software was developed for both iOS and Android and included a server component. I was responsible for team selection, technical direction, and delivery across all workstreams.

Sotera Digital Health, Inc.

Vice President, Systems Software and Interoperability

March 2009 - November 2017

San Diego, CA

Joined as a Senior Software Developer and grew into the role of Vice President, Systems Software and Interoperability over an eight-year tenure. Sotera's product is a patient-worn wireless vital signs monitor for acute-care environments, continuously measuring heart rate, respiration, SpO2, blood pressure, temperature, ECG, arrhythmia detection, and fall detection — all transmitted in real time over the facility's wireless network.

I was responsible for building, deploying, and supporting the full software stack: the on-premise server that captures and stores patient data at full fidelity, the remote monitoring viewers installed at nursing stations, and the remote alarming system. I also owned interoperability — integrating with each customer's patient admissions, electronic health records, and third-party alarming systems using HL7 and related healthcare standards.

Earlier Career

Various Software Development Roles

January 1995 - March 2009

San Diego, CA

Chicago, IL

Indianapolis, IN

Held a series of software development roles — both full-time and contract — across multiple industries and company stages, including two medical device startups. These early roles built the foundation for my expertise in embedded systems, healthcare software, and leading small teams through ambiguous, fast-moving product development cycles. Happy to provide further details upon request.

Skills

I have worked with a wide range of technologies throughout my career, giving me the versatility to choose the right tool for the job. My most recent experience spans the full stack: Java and Spring Boot on the backend, Next.js, React, and TypeScript on the frontend, with PostgreSQL as the primary database. I have significant experience deploying and managing solutions in AWS (S3, CloudFront, Lambda, API Gateway, Cognito, RDS, Amplify, CloudFormation, CodePipeline), and more recently with modern cloud platforms including Vercel for frontend hosting and Neon for serverless Postgres. I integrate comfortably with third-party services — Stripe for payments, Clerk for authentication, Loops for email automation, and Databento and Interactive Brokers for market data and trade execution. I am very comfortable with the command line and proficient with Git for version control. In addition, I have a deep understanding of healthcare interoperability standards, including HL7, FHIR, and SMART on FHIR. Through my personal project, backtestresults.com, I have also gained hands-on experience in financial markets, quantitative strategy analysis, and brokerage APIs.
